An analysis on the Vocaloid Synchronicity series

It's amazing how much free time I have when I don't even touch my computer for days. Since Christmas, I've only put my computer on four times, including right now. It's not like I have much to do on here anyways, but since getting my older brother's phone when he switched to the newer Nexus, whatever number it is, I've been reading all my books on there, so I'm pretty satisfied with that. All that really leaves for me to do on my computer is schoolwork, which I do in batches and it doesn't matter if I don't do it every day, and games. And since I'm still playing my little brother's Plants Vs Zombies on my DS (beat everything, just having fun with it now) I don't really play much games on my computer anymore. So yeah, haven't been on much.
When I put my computer on yesterday, I had the intention of playing some games. But that didn't happen for long, because of some issue that I already forgot. So then I decided to write down some Vocaloid lyrics in a notebook (which is handy for me when I don't have my computer by me, or when someone is borrowing my computer for a while) And because I didn't have a particular song in mind to write down, I decided to go for the Synchronicity series, part 3 because I already had the first 2 written down.
What a pain that was. I know most people would just write the lyrics like all in one row and all, but when I find that two people are singing at the same time, I tend to write both of their parts over each other on the same line. Hard to explain without a picture, but I write tiny enough that I can fit two lines of writing in one line in my notebook (actually, I can do five, but I'm not trying to save space or make some impressive record...besides, I want to be able to read it without hurting my eyes too much) and because they sing and overlap so much, it made it a pain for me.
Now, to sort of understand this a bit more, I'm going to link to the English subbed series on Youtube. We have the first part, which is here: Part 1 Then the second part, which is here: Part 2 And the third part, which just recently came out after a very long wait, is here: Part 3
Now, here's where I try to understand the story. Beware, this is going to be long and confusing...Oh, and to understand a bit more, I've also got a link to the webnovel translation, which is I believe an official story, that helps in some of the details in the story. It's here: Webnovel Start from the post at the bottom first, then work your way up. It isn't complete yet, but I'm not exactly sure if it ever will be anyways. Who can say? Part three came out after a wait of two years or so...
So, in the first video, Looking for you in the Sky, it seems like we're starting out with a few pictures of the dragon and Miku. Not exactly sure what's going on there, but from what I understand, Miku is the dragon's priestess. I believe that the dragon got angry and killed the Diva there.
In this story, the Diva is always a female that is chosen to live her life in solitude underneath the ground in a shrine and sing daily songs, or prayers, to the dragon that blesses the land and doesn't destroy everything. Or that's what I understand from it.
As for who the Diva is, mainly in this story it is Rin. But at that flashback or whatever it is, I'm not sure who it is. Since Teto was the Diva before Rin, I'm guessing that it was her that was killed. Because after that, we're shown a lady who seems to be Rin and Len's mother, and how one of them gets taken away. That would be Rin, as she gets chosen to be the next Diva. Then we see her underground, standing in some sunshine that somehow gets through the rocks, looking at her necklace, which is a treble clef. Which I don't entirely understand how she got, because I didn't see it when she was a baby, and for the Diva, there is literally no returning to the surface of the world, and I don't think that they really get gifts like that...Anyways, she drops it, probably because of the dragon scaring her or something. I don't know. But then we switch over Len, who picks up his necklace, which is actually a bass clef.
Now, in the first part of the webnovel, the prelude, Len finds out by his parents that he has an older sister, and he makes the guess that she's his twin. It says of how he's always known that there was someone else connected to him, and how he felt lost and incomplete in a way without her. But he's always known about her. I'm assuming that this takes place before Len showing up in the video, because there he's obviously on a quest of some sort to find the voice in his head, his twin. Here we also see a part of the story from Rin's view, and some of the Diva's ways are explained. But only some.
Back to the video. Len doesn't seem to know where he's going, or exactly how his twin looks like. But he's following the voice, her voice. Then we see some pictures of Meiko, who is a swordswoman, Kamui Gackupo or whatever his name is, who is a scholar, Luka, who is a priestess and very firm believer in the dragon religion that they have existing there, and of Len passing through a town with Kaito, and if look there you'll also see Neru and Haku, who I have no idea what part they play in the story yet. And then it shows Rin, and somehow Len knows what she looks like or something, because her smile has been burned into his mind, according to the lyrics. Then we see Len standing on a hill looking out at a city or town of some sort, and Rin standing by the dragon. And that's about it for part one.
Now, at some point Chapter 1 of the webnovel, which follows the scholar Kamui as he's adressed there and Luka happens. I'd say it happens either at the point in the first video where you see him and Luka in the hallway, or somewhere in between there and the second video. But in this chapter, Kamui is basically questioning the ways of the world, which he believes to be corrupt and twisted, and Luka, being a very faithful priestess to the dragon, isn't very happy with the questions he's asking. But it also explains a bit more about the Divas.
The second chapter I should also probably mention here. This chapter takes place before any of the other stuff so far. This chapter shows how Teto was chosen to be the Diva, and how she chose the role to save her best friend, Meiko, from being the Diva herself. And again with the Divas. You get more info on the Divas in the webnovel than you seem to get from the videos, so it's definitely worth reading.
Now, onto the second video, Paradise of Light and Shadow. First we see Rin singing and dancing for the dragon. Then we see a picture of some other people. I assume them all to be previous Divas, though I could be mistaken. I recognize Teto there, and some of the other characters may be other Vocaloids I don't know about (I am no expert on Vocaloids and don't know about the majority of them, so it is a possibility that some of them are Vocaloids) And then we go back to her singing, and then some very fast images that are hard for me to see, but from what I understand, it shows what looks like the aftermath of a war, Miku forcibly getting her mask,a hand reaching out, some chairs, a chain and lock on a door, and a rose. Not sure what most of that means, but it seems clear that Miku did not choose to be in the position she is in now.
Then we switch over to a view of the town/city we saw at the end of the first video with Len. There we see that Kamui is thrown down, and Luka is smiling above him. It seems like he's being punished for his sayings in the first chapter of the webnovel. And then Len comes in, holding a sword to Luka. I think he's trying to get information from her, seeing as how she knows so much about the dragon, and his sister is the Diva. Then Meiko comes in, and she and Len fight. Since she's older and more experienced at swordfighting, she could easily win, but then she sees the look in his eyes, and it reminds her of the times she and Teto had together before Teto was taken away to be the Diva. She does end up having Len on the floor away from his sword, but she remembers Teto again, and she goes to attack Luka. But then someone else (not someone I'm familiar with...I believe her name is Ruka or something?) comes in and stops her. Then we switch over to Kamui, who is sitting in a room, and we get pictures of a fire, a hand around a wrist (looks like a guy's hand around a lady's wrist) a chain, what appears to be Kamui and possibly his mother reading a book together, a chess board with some pieces on it, and what I'm assuming to be Kamui being taken up to see the king and queen, and then a picture of a lady I'm assuming to be his mother, who then falls off a building, and Kamui holding a book with blood on it, and then the flashbacks end and we see him in his current state. Then the door to the prison cell or whatever opens up and we see Kaito grinning and holding some keys, one arm around who I assume to be the jailkeeper's throat. Then we see how Meiko, Len, Kaito, and Kamui escaping and fighting everyone in their way. Then we switch back to Rin, who has collapsed at some point earlier from singing. Something of the dragon sweeps over her. I believe that it's a wing.
Then we switch back to Len's group. They're travelling, and I'm assuming that they're finding information on the Diva and how to find her. We see Kamui talking to Gumi at some point. And more pictures of them travelling, and one showing some kids in there, and Len is looking at them and I imagine that some of the kids are either best friends or siblings, and he probably wishes that he could be as happy as they are. And more travelling. Then we see Luka and that other girl commanding an army or something, and then back to Len and Rin, who is now bleeding and looking like she's suffering a lot from being the Diva.
At some point during this next part of the video, the third and as of writing this last translated part of the webnovel happens. It speaks more of the Diva. The Diva needs both Light and Darkness to make the dragon calm/happy, whatever you want to say, and it says that Meiko heard him singing at some point and said that she heard Light in his voice. Then Kamui explains a theory that Len has Light, while Rin has Darkness. And that since Len has the Light, Rin is making up for it by shortening her own life to subtitute for that. So that might explain why Rin is bleeding.
Then Len's party is attacked, and it seems like they're blamed for something, because people are pointing fingers at them and then they're standing alone as a group in a corner. Then we get to Miku again. It looks like she's casting a spell to summon something to defeat the others. Somehow only Len makes it through, or that's what it appears like, and he charges Miku. I think she tells him something, though I'm not sure what, before throwing him back to the ground with a nasty looking head wound.
Then it seems like Kamui and Meiko are dead on the ground, and Kaito is still alive somehow. I read somewhere that someone believed that he betrayed them, but since I've never stopped to analyze the videos like I am right now, I didn't understand what they meant. But it is a possibility here. And then Miku is laughing over Len on the ground, and again we see the picture of the war, Miku getting her mask, etc from earlier, except slower this time so that you can actually see them. Then it seems like Miku is crying, and she says "please sing". Then we have both twins singing at the same time, and it shows that Rin just wants everyone to be happy and that she's willing to give her life for that, while Len just wants to have his sister by him again. Then Miku says "history repeats itself..." suggesting that they aren't the first people to try and rescue the Diva. And with those words, Len looks like he's getting strength from rage and he stands up, surprising Miku. She casts a spell again, but he just goes up to her, seemingly ignoring the attack, and breaks her mask. And then we see Len finally reaching Rin...a literal cliffhanger...
Which is why I'm extremely glad that the third part finally came out recently! Now, this video is very, very confusing, and I'm not going to try to pretend that I understand most of it. But I can try, even though I've already got a headache from thinking about everything else so far. And it doesn't help that they're both singing at the same time for a lot of the song and it's confusing trying to read both of their parts at the same time (which is possible for me without pausing the video) and trying to understand the video itself.
From what I understand, most of what happens is just flashbacks/imagination in the very beginning. I believe that Rin standing up and coming in front of the dragon is a 'real' thing happening though, and her dancing is pretty to me, even if it seems like it's showing how she's using her life to substitute for the Light, as she collapses at the end of her little dance. Though that may just be a flashback thing too, because then we see the twins standing in front of each other. I don't know. Then we're back to her dancing with the circles around her and collapsing again in front of the dragon. Then we have Miku laughing and Rin singing about how she wants peace and blessings for the world as we see Len holding Rin in his arms, crying. I believe that she's either dead or very close to it. Then Miku casts a spell, though I'm not sure what it does.
The scales around her eyes (which do look like dragon eyes) are a little confusing too. I've seen theories before of how Miku was also a dragon who turned human because of her mask, but it doesn't seem to make much sense to me with the picture of her crying when she's getting her mask in the previous video, which makes me wonder if she has the ability to transform into a human and really is a dragon, or just a human forced into that position and just somehow turned partially dragon. I don't know.
It seems like Rin is dead then, seeing as how Len is crying and all, but he starts singing a song for her, and since Light represents life, I think he brings her back to life. Or maybe it was something to do with the spell Miku cast. Anyways, then we see the dragon. Pretty awesome looking, I have to add here, because I absolutely love dragons. The twins seem like they're happy to be together, despite the fact that the dragon looks really angry.
Now here's another big part that confuses me. In a way it seems like they died because of the dragon unleashing it's fury and killing them, but I have to wonder. When Miku casts that spell, you see a strange looking shape thingy in her hand that is the same as the one that shows up with the white light at the end. So I'm wondering what that spell really did. I saw that the spell actually went into the twins, so maybe they survived the dragon. It may have been a shield against it, since it seems more and more likely to me that Miku really is a dragon and probably would know a shield against it. Or perhaps they killed the dragon with that whatever it is, since the last line says 'At the bottom of the light, rest in peace' and I can hardly imagine that they're singing to each other there, and it does seem like they're singing to the dragon right before we can't see their faces anymore.
So, there's my rather confusing look on the Synchronicity series. I have no doubt that other people would be more likely to find a less confusing way to explain it all, but this is just what came out of my head right now as I actually watched the videos again and tried to understand them. Who knows, maybe some of my theories in there is actually true?
Anyways, for anyone who is still reading at this point and isn't utterly bored or confused, congrats. This is quite a bit of writing, even for me. And one massive headache. Ugh. But not so much as the Evillous Chronicles...which I'll be tackling in parts in the future...unfortunately, that series is incomplete as of right now and it's probably not much use to try and understand it anyways, but I can sure try.
So, expect some confusing interpretation of the Evillous Chronicles series soon! Not sure if I'm actually looking forward to writing about that or not...
